Who isn’t envious of Stuart Price? be it simple fuzzy digital renditions under the moniker Thin White Duke, the more dance friendly collab with Adam Blake as Paperfaces or his more commercially appealing band Zoot Woman the roughly 4000 creative outlets all lead to an eventual success in one way or another.

The release of Zoot Womans ‘Things Are What They Used To Be’ from Bandroom Records proved to be a huge success for the band and moved into a lot of peoples top albums of the year with my personal expectations for a heap of pleasing remixes to surface.

‘Just A Friend Of Mine’ is the first sample of things to come in what Zoot Womans moving originals can be transformed into. Chris Fraser lays down some squeaky clean running synth over both the remix and dub with Jump Jump Dance Dances more fascinating and natural fun-pop version will leave you dancing!

FRIENDLY FIRES KISS OF LIFE LUKE SOLOMONS BROKEN DREAMS AND TAMBOURINES REMIX

Friendly Fires ‘Kiss of Life’ took a little getting used to to really appreciate what was on offer. It was something unique and different, a new way of having fun that followed the danceability that was ‘Paris’ and ‘Jump in the Pool’.

So far Friendly Fires are looking good in the remix department, having scored Au Revoir Simone for a cover, Thin White Duke (Stuart Price/Zoot Woman) and now a Luke Solomon remix.

Having never heard of Luke Solomon I thought the plot was lost… boy how wrong was I. An incredibly stretched (8.47) and slightly more electronic version of a DFA influenced body this lifts and travels on a scale ahead much like Friendly Fires.

If theres a track you need for summer it is this.

ZOOT WOMAN THINGS ARE WHAT THEY USED TO BE ALBUM REVIEW

Stuart Price (Thin White Duke, Paper FacesJacques Lu Cont) is back at the reigns of his effortlessly neat band Zoot Woman after a long hiatus (2003) with the soon to be released ‘Things Are What They Used To Be’.

The feature spans 12 tracks long and is both adventurous and synthetic, made up of electronic ‘noises’, airy vocals and uplifting ballards. The album takes strong references from Kraftwerk, Simian Mobile Disco, Whomadewho and Tiga at times with a melancholy and solitary approach to every single track.

Stand outs are the already released ‘Live In My Head’ as well as ‘Lonely By Your Side’, ‘Blue Sea’, ‘Saturation’ and a darker slower ‘Witness’.

The potential already there for countless EPs and unofficial remixes will be immeasurable.

A little exert taken from the Zoot Woman site;

‘The euphoric title track emphasises the want to return to how things once were in another state of mind, time and place’

While this album takes you on a journey, sometimes introspective and often drenched in desire, each track is unique. From the pulsing hook line of ‘We Won’t Break’, feeding an addiction to emotional melody in ‘Lonely By Your Side’ and ‘More Than Ever’, then to be shaken up by the pounding stadium electro of ‘Witness’ - Zoot Woman

‘Things Are What They Used To Be’ is set for a September release through Bandroom Records.
