Part man part reaper Kill the Noise is dropping down down down under for the Fire and Hell tour. He will also be bumping heads with Djedjotronic, Strip Steve, MikIX the Cat for the Boys Noize Record Night put on by the lufly musicpeople THIS SATURDAY (29th)… and a little secret club action at Candys Apartment tomorrow Night (28th).
Had a chance to to fire some Q’s his way whilst midflight and 30,000+ feet in the air… turns out hes a pretty down to earth guy (yes pun intended), still has an intimate relationship with his Nintendo and is afraid of daylight.
Ubbs: Give us a run down of who you are, real name, age, fetishes, maybe where the Kill the Noise alias came from.
KTN: I am a house / electro / techno whatever… producer/DJ from New York, although, I just recently moved to Los Angeles. I’m 28 and my real name is Jake. Shall I give you my social security number and ID as well? ;)
Ubbs: Yes… yes you should + credit card info and shoe size.
Ubbs: When growing up have you always had this killer character waiting inside to be released or were you the geek staying late at school or reading up about the newest computers/music tech?
KTN: I was probably somewhere in between. I’ve always loved music, and more specifically, electronic music, and had a natural curiosity about how it was being made. In school I mostly fucked around and focused more on having a good time that I probably should have to be honest. The interesting thing to me about growing up was that I became a nerd after I got out of school. That was when I started to stay in while everyone else was out partying so I could work on my eq’ing techniques, read up on new gear, test out some new plug-ins, etc.
Ubbs: I spooked around and may have spotted you have been to Australia to play before, would you have called it your first official Australian visit or will the Fire and Hell tour be the big one?
KTN: Yes absolutely, I only played one show last time I was here in Perth at SHAPE. I will also be playing there this time around as well! So, yes, this is the big one, and I’m really excited about it!
Ubbs: Looking at your new site (www.killnoisekill.com) theres a heap of 8 bit video game traits, are you a huge gamer? or is it something you just admired as being the birth of proper video gaming?
KTN: Yea there is something about the 8 bit graphics and stuff that I connect with on an intimate level. I’m not a huge gamer anymore but when I was younger that’s all I did! The roots of my obsession with electronic music definitely goes all the way back to when I first powered on my nintendo back in the early 80′s.
Ubbs: Blogs can be considered a great thing to some artists and terrible to others, what are you throughts on the speed and accessibility that music finds its way online?
KTN: I think that blogs can be useful. The thing I’ve noticed that has hurt the whole blog/music culture is quality control. It’s a waste of time to sift through a bunch of poorly produced “songs” to find one thing you like. There are definitely some left that have maintained their integrity, but not many. On the flipside of it, if it wasn’t for the blogs, I definitely wouldn’t have gotten where I am so quickly. I am happy that people can grab my music off of there as well. The more people I can reach the better. I know certain artists get upset when they find their music up on certain sites, but most of those guys will take it down with a simple email, and one thing i try to remember is that if I don’t want something leaked, I won’t send it to ANYONE.
Ubbs: Lastly, bit of fun… the suns out, your heading off to the water park for a little slip and slide, who are you calling up to join you for the day?
KTN: I’m afraid of sunlight these days…
