STRIPPED BACK

strippedback

Its good to see that producers are stripping back tracks, removing all the unnecessary noise and concentrating on a killer combination of bass and melody. This might have been due to a rise in popularity of minimal tech (renaissance man) or just people being plain tired of it all.

Benjamin Daly is a London lad with skills, with only so few tracks on his myspace its impressive how far he has progressed. Two licks here, one from the ever-drama-ful Deadmau5 that keeps and enhances the sharp harpsichordial sound that IS ‘Ghosts n Stuff. The next is one of the last Crookers installments ‘Business Man’ feat Wiley, that throws in some low shaking bass and upped vocals.

Deadmau5 – Ghost n Stuff (Benjamin Daly Remix) Z

Crookers ft Wiley – Business Man (Benajmin Daly Remix) Z

B. Rich has this sort of RnB Dubstep thing going on, heavy and slow bass meant for slow jams and sways. What Manikan has done is ramp this into a proper dance tune whilst shredding away the extras. The final tune is ravetastic… almost dancehall-esque, come 2:40 it takes a very different turn and would find itself in a Major Lazor set very easily.

B. Rich – Make Me Dance (Manikan Remix) Z

Heaps of new stuff this week.

MOOD REFLECTION

mood-reflection

A bit pissed off and slightly hungover I reflect upon what has been a somewhat good/shit weekend. No dance parties involved, just fucking boozy country horse races and snotty days in bed (swine flu, but woke up this morning and actually feel normal again). But as we all prepare for a pandemic, I’m just going to share a song that reflects my mood.

Deadmau5 vs Jelo – The Reward is cheese

yeah yeah yeah, i know its an old track. but to be frank, this song sucks! And when i say that I mean in the sense of how the song synth builds up to the main beat. There are some off key beats which, to me when listening to remind me of frustration. This makes me feel good because the song will always be more pissed off than i ever will be.

Tittsworth

Tittsworth – Drunk as FUCK (Meterhead dark disco mix)

Fresh as fuck and what I was yesterday. Only download this if you like dirty disco rap.

At the end of the day, I am voicing my frustration at what has been trivial matters. I, like most people in countries such as USA, GB and Australia are fortunate to have everything on a plate when it comes to setting up a good life which is making me question what i can do to help make this world any better.

Calvin + Jesse + Hot Chip + Streetlife Djs = LOVE!

jesse-rose

Calvin Harris seems to be the talk of the blog world with the remixes coming thick and fast. Got this track in my travels and thought its a nice rearrange by Deadmau5 that takes you on a trip through the galaxy on a big fluffy space cloud of happiness.  Hope you enjoy!

Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix)

Next is Streetlife Djs form the blockbuster label Kitsune there original ‘Gunn Crime’ is quite the party jumper with those buzzsaw noises that make your mind bend and warp to the old skool guitar riff that ill let you tell me who it is.

Streetlife Djs – Gunn Crime

Jesse Rose is the kind of guy that can make you jump up and down in a repetitive way that makes you tired but always wanting more, team Jesse Rose and Hot Chip up and what do you get? good question. Those Hot Chippers bring some beautiful vocals that complement Jesse’s Superb choice of back beats. This is one to tell the grand kids about.

Jesse Rose – Forget My Name (Feat. Hot Chip) removed by request

U GO B MINI MIX + TRACK, WOLFMOTHER’S NEW TRACK BACK ROUND, FACES OF METH WITH BENSON, BURNS DOES CALVIN HARRIS ‘IM NOT ALONE’

Party Pics with Feadz here

Alright it’s Monday and seems everyone survived by the looks of twitter (us = here) apart from some apartment blowing up and blackouts in a few places. I made it through the haze and excited to see so much really good music is being sent through especially by Australian’s.. yes we live here too!

Been listening to Cicada’s new album Roulette and think a whole lot of people are going to be happy with the results, Fasial did a great review over at Ohh Crapp here and don’t worry he should be back from his holiday today or tomorrow.

As promised we have a few disco treats from U Go B with a Mini Mix and a Dj friendly single. This thing is super slick, looking at the track listing (comments) you can see Shazam mix it up with Sebastian Tellier, Aeroplane and Gonzales, Dj Mehdi and Cut Copy, Bumblebeez and Holy Ghost, the list goes on.

U Go B – Another Galaxy Pt 2

This will hopefully become a fortnightly/monthly thing and allow someone to be showcased here on Stoney Roads.

He also sent through his take on Gonzales ‘Let’s Ride’, you might remember a Boys Noize remix we posted a few months ago here with a slightly different sound. Either way you look at it a good song starts with a solid base and this is no different, lots of piano, lifting vocals… hello disco

Gonzales – Let’s Ride (U Go B’s Disco Edit)

Seemed not that long ago that Wolfmother decided to call it quits and Andrew Stockdale said that was it. Now it’s coming to light that White Feather (Andrew’s new band) was a pseudo one to test the new material before hitting the road once again.

‘Back Round’ is a whiff of the new stuff and has been released for free from his kind heart and with the idea that people will donate to the Red Cross in supporting the Bushfire victims in recent months.

The track makes you want to speed along a highway in 6th gear with death fast approaching around the next corner while blazed and only smiling cause your too lazy to change it.

Wolfmother – Back Round

Hopefully we all remember Nick Colemans ‘Face of Meth’ and hearing it blare in nearly every set and the constant kudos’s over at havefunclub. Then there was the T-Rek remix giving it a breath of fresh filthy air and now Bensons Remix

Real strong thuddy bass with some obscure muffled zip sample makes this the be all and end of 3am clubbing.

Nick Coleman – Faces of Meth (Benson Remix)

Benson also makes up 1/2 of the Brain Matter Dj’s.

Plus an extra from Benson, booty of Michael Gray’s ‘The Weekend’ (I can’t wait for the weekend to begin).

Brain Matters – The Big Weekend

To continue the hype I’ve got mega-blog-favorite Burns and his version of Calvin Harris and his single ‘Im Not Alone’ and what can I say. After hearing the original, Doorly remix, Hump Day Project, Herve and Deadmau5 (found here) this comes out the champion.

Bit of rave, bit of techno, bit of hiss and a bit of Balti bounce, you be the judge.

Calvin Harris – Im Not Alone (Burns Rework)

Go preview them on Hypem here, Twitter us here and Facebook us here.

LARRY TEE INTERVIEW + MIX, EXCLUSIVE KRAYMER REMIX OF 30H!3, JOY DIVISION MEETS IAMXL AND DIPLOS TAKE ON MUJAVAS TOWNSHIP FUNK

Categories:  Interviews, Music
Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

WE ALSO HAVE PICS UP OF A FEW PARTIES IN EUROPE, CHECK EM OUT.. CLICK PHOTO’S >

Started chatting to Larry Tee the other day about a new album/mix tape he’s dropping soon and we also segwayed onto an array of other current social topics.

After it all I agreed to myself Larry Tee not only has this amazing wealth of knowledge but he really has been there and done that. Who else can say their career started off with a Tranvestite singer, producing for the B-52’s and coining the term ‘Electroclash’?

Ubbs – So give us the stats, how old are you, how long have you been making/living music and how did it all start?

LT – My age? 29….OK, 49, and I have been making music since I was 20 and Djing since I was 23. I started with a band called the FANS that had previously produced the B-52s and then started my own group, Now explosion that featured myself and Rupaul amongst other people.

I also started Djing because noone was playing the music I wanted to hear…..

Ubbs – I could imagine having such a huge amount music around you constantly would sort of grind down your tastes and creativity or just the opposite and really inspire you to keep on going, how do you look at such a fast paced industry and its effects on you?

LT – Well, my brain moves pretty fast and I think I would be much more unhappy to have to play one style for the rest of my life like the veterans of house music or techno….playing one style of music all night long would make me crazy.

I like all kinds of music. I LOVE to know all the latest ways to get music like the blogs and to sell it….. it all seems so democratic now since its all out there for everyone to get no matter where you live.

And I want the latest sounds whether it be bassline, fidgit, minimal, bloghouse or whatever….not sure I will ever change in that matter…

Ubbs – So with that being said do you think blogs are an effective form of promotion or like most things sorta fade back in obscurity?

LT I think blogs are the future of promotion… I dont think they have even started their reign yet. It gives the kids a chance to promote the acts that really represent them, not something chosen by P Diddy.

Ubbs – I remember reading how you were one of the pioneers and creators the genre ‘Electroclash’ back in the early 90’s sometime along with Dj Hell which would have been a massive compliment. Looking at current times how you do feel about all these sub genres, do they really define a sound or should they all be loosely layered around what has been founded in the past?

LT – Well people do need names to help describe sounds, though the artists are not always so keen on being labelled. When I created the term electroclash for my festival, the press made it a genre name. But I definately got criticized for creating the word…..

But for me, I like to hear the latest names for music styles… and then leave them behind…. I am sworn to fun, loyal to none hehehehe

Ubbs – There is quite a provocative edge to your music and the artists you work with, is this common ground or an added element to make it something different?

LT – well, ever since the beginning of time, I worked with the craziest artists possible because I want to know what goes through their mind. My first hit was Rupaul’s Supermodel and it sold 3 million copies…. and she was a tranvestite. I think it was important…. at least to millions of gays and transvestites. thats for sure. but I have alwasy preferred the Grace Jones and Divines over the Bon Jovis and the Whitney houstons.

I am afraid I didnt ADD this crazy element to my album…in fact I have been trying to hide it for years, without any luck… I mean, I am Mr ELectrolcash…lol!

Ubbs – You mentioned a new Album dropping soon, what should we expect? any Australians thrown in the mix and how does Doitlouder.com slip in there?

LT – Well, do it louder.com is the LOUDER booking agency that handles all my favorite talent out there….Fire and Reason (Ubbs – Hey Bella!), Alexander teCHnique, Mel Merio and Christopher Just, Bad Brilliance, Tombstone…. I just realized that I could introduce people to my favorite artists, actually I always have, and this was another way to do it and share them with more people.

As for my album it is ridiculous with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Princess Superstar, Kelly (Whose video SHOES has been seen by 50 million people), Roxy Cottontail, Herve, Jeffree Star 38 million visits to his myspace site…and a 7 year old girl…I wanted to make the sickest collection EVER and for it to take its cues from the internet NOT have some chirpy dance music singers on it that are lamo…just to get people to buy it.. Ecchhhh. Besides there is already the Lady Gaga record isnt there….why do what everybody else is doing?

I have some great remixes by Australians like Act Yo Age, the guy from Gameboy Gamegirl, and hopefully one by the Aston Shuffle…and how about one from those handsome Stafford Brothers whom I did a collaboration with… ask them about that one, those boys are HOT! I want to remix The Presets as they are one of my favorite bands!! BLOGULA (my remix name) DOES THE PRESETS!!

Ubbs – Favorite question, if could spoon any dj/producer/artists alive (or dead) who would it be?

LT – Spoon DJ/Producer/artists? hmmmm. Actor Jamie Bell is pretty smoking and how about that kid that got into trouble for throwing a party in his parents house in Australia with the sunglasses…hehehehe. What was his name again? I am afraid I have terrible taste… I dont actually think producers and Djs are Sexy at all, except for ME!!

Well there you go, Larry Tee thinks blogs are cool, crushes on Corey Delaney and is just plain crazy and fantastic at the same time!

Has a new minimix showcasing alot of the talent described above, tracklisting is in the comments.

Larry Tee – Larry’s Louder Mix

Plus a single track from the mix above.. a Christopher Just and Bunny Lake collaboration/mashup for the masses, super fresh beat and bass.

Christopher Just vs Bunny Lake – The Very Last Party

Kraymer also sent through an exxxclusive for us, with a bit of work on 30H!3’s ‘Don’t Trust Me’. In his words its a bit more friendly then the sticky beats he usually sends through. Bitta pop and a bit of lock.. I like it!

30H!3 – Don’t Trust Me (Kraymer Cut Up)

Iamxl has been putting in the hard work over the past few months with some strong remixes. He constantly picks different but quality tracks including Deadmau5’s ‘Faxing Berlin’, Sook Yin Lee’s ‘Beautiful Day’ and now Joy Divisions ‘Atmosphere’.

I’ve heard a few dj’s have a stab at Joy Division and fall short, or just create such an obscure track it would be difficult to actually mix with. This time he holds the anonymous mystery beat behind the track and throws a smooth but glitchy layer all over it.

Joy Division – Atmosphere (Iamxl Remix)

Bonus > Mujava – Township Funk (Diplo Remix)

+ Peace Offering

Yuksek – Extraball (CK 90s Hip House Remix)

HERVE AND DEADMAU5 REMIX IM NOT ALONE BY CALVIN HARRIS, SCOTTIE B AND TOTALLY MICHAEL

Calvin Harris claim to fame – ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ & Dating Kylie Minogue (did anyone else know that?!?!)

Well that’s all about to change!

Since ‘I’m Not Alone’ is mowing down charts and blogs and the official release of the single/ep is just around the corner here is two of my favorite remixes (compressed.. don’t sue me), one by the esteemed Herve and a super long but super nice edit by Deadmau5.

Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (Herve Remix)

Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix)

Saw this floating around following the whole Bloody Beetroots live rip/rip/radio rip fascade and the final full track but didn’t really get into it… The Soulwax version of Tiga’s ‘Mind Dimension’ is a much cooler and well timed piece, quite subtle.

Tiga – Mind Dimension (Soulwax Edit)

Totally Michael is out of Bloomington, Indiana and plays this fun type of music sorta punk sorta pop… touches on important issues such as ‘Winona’, ‘Prom Night’ and ‘Casual Satisfaction’, even Australian hero Miami Horror did a somewhat official remix.

This remix by Scottie B is hilarious, the vocals give me visions of Gameboy Gamegirl jumping all over the place thrusting in leotards singing wacky lyrics.. still not following? Just download the track.

Totally Michael – Casual Satisfaction (Scottie B Remix)

Go check out IHEARTCOMIX cause they rule and you can purchase the album somewhere on there.

Also we got a Twitter so follow us, it’s easy.. and don’t forget our facebook group here and hypem page here. It’s nice to know there are people out there who like what we do.

Deadmau5 + meeleeeeeefresh = Attention Whore. hmm ironic name, did they produce the song to get attention or are they trying to get a point across to others? either way you cannot divert yourself away from the intoxicating beat.

Slow Dance Part 2

Well day 2 is upon us!

More tracks from yesterdays artists, so if you were inclined to have a listen and liked them here’s the baking stage with the icing on top tomorrow.

Changing up the order we have Marquee on top with song so aptly named ‘When it Works’ and in this case… it does.

Marquee – When it Works

Next up is Parades who still give off that pleasurable feel of listening to music. This time there are invaders on the way.

Parades – Invaders

Lastly is my current favorite Clique Talk. Was chatting to my friend cruz who assumed they were already ‘popular’ and was shocked to hear they were little known to anyone including me as of last week.

Clique Talk – Sleep Deprivation

and if anyone has a problem with no dance-dance, have no fear a Deadmau5 edit of some seriously messed up german tech.

Ltzenkirchen – 3 Tage Wach (Deadmau5 Remix)

Heavy robotic german minimal tech, halleuhah.
