SAVAGE SKULLS PARTAY!

Categories:  Music
Tags: , , , , , , ,

Savage Skulls are in the country for a mad decent party @ good god small in sydney for an intimate and intense gig that is sure to blow the socks off anyone that has the luck off getting a red hot ticket, below is a bio about the guys.

Carli Löf and Måns Glaeser both spent the greater parts of their teenage years sneaking around in the shady backstreets of their home town Stockholm, looking for unexplored graffiti terrain. Frequently bumping into each other in dark alleys and closed subway stations, the youngsters soon discovered a common obsession with bouncy beats and fat basslines. This was in the early nineties, when Carli was busy trying to copy prodigy’s early productions with the primitive sampler he had just bought, while hip hop head Måns was busy getting into trouble in Sweden’s finest music high school. Today Carli and Måns are busy composing fast-paced, elegant and generally ridiculous dance music in their shared studio, and enjoying some well-deserved international success, as a duo as well as on their own, with Måns being the driving force behind some of the hottest parties in Stockholm over the last years, and Carli being one of Sweden’s most in-demand remixers as well as new school rap phenomenon Mapeis tour dj. It is however when these old graffiti buddies work together that their talents really shine through.drawing inspiration from Green Velvet and the classic Swedish loop techno as well as the freshest dancehall riddims from Jamaica.

As the bio says they make some insane tunes and i hear there are a few big names collaborating with the duo in the months to come and a slue of remixes for designer drugs, act yo age, crookers and miike snow. today i have a big party tune for you guys to bounce through to the weekend on, so if you like what you hear and are in sydney this saturday march 6th head down to good god small club @ la campana liverpool street, sydney, details of all acts below.

LADY GAGA FT BEYONCE TELEPHONE CROOKERS VOCAL REMIX

Whoaaaa… two kinda played out partners Lady Gaga and Crookers combine to what you would expect to be a pretty generic mess but in this case I’m hooked on the scratch bass italo flow the boys have laid down and really amped up my expectations for a new-sound Crookers when the LP drops.

If they can keep the material up to this level of production and sound then maybe 2010 will be year for Crookers… again.

Props to Nate at Chemical Jump for the hookups (tons of raw and early stuff on there).

GETTING STICKY CAN BE OH SO FUN!

KKKKKKKKKKKKKKSticky k is a young gun hailing from san francisco, and with a huge banging release on switch’s imprint ‘dubside’d which is for the heavy heads out there. With nice heavy wonk, banging electro and a hint of drum and bass, his remixes are no different with a mass of them floating around on the internet. i’m sure a quick search of hypem will yield some results.

today i have la roux, crookers, and maluca remixes for you to get your audible chocolate, you won’t be disappointed i hope. The crookers and la roux remixes are slower than his usual work but the maluca remix shows off the style of his ep fast paced feral tracks for big dance floors.

Throbbing bass, powerful vocals and frenetic pace are a few things that come to mind when summerising the Icelandic four piece ravers and my newest group crush Steed Lord. Having had a couple releases under their belts as independents for the last 3 years and a recent collab with italian big boys Crookers on ‘Transylvania’ it seems Steed Lord are intent on creating some serious world vibes.

The guys + gal were happy to open the New Crack City den and answer a few questions.

Ubbs: Introduce yourselves, names, age, hometown

Kali:  singer and songwriter, 150 years old, New Crack City.
AC: singer, dj and illustrator, 28 years old, New Crack City.

M.E.G.A: producer, dj, graphic designer, videographer and maestro, 31 winters old, New Crack City.

Ubbs: Current likes?

Kali: Love, food, my new home in L.A., kittens, my family and my boyfriend M.E.G.A.
AC: I like aisle seats but I hate flying.. I guess that answers the next question for me!
DEMO: The L.A. heat, good music, family & friends, girls, girls, girls, Steed Lord and lots of red velvet cake.
M.E.G.A: the perfect latte, the newest gadgets, our new crib in Silver Lake, the new Steed Lord joints we are working on…my girl, my boyz… and my furry little monsters!

CROOKERS AND CONGOROCK SBOMBERS

Ooooo so Crookers hit 100,000 fans on Facebook so they decided to give away their collab with fellow masterian and recent Australian tourer Congorock.

There was chatter of this and rumours flying for the last month on twitter so fun to see them release it for free. Hard to nail the sound but the normal bulky vibe you would expect Crookers although a little fresher touch from Congorock.

CROOKERS PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME JESSE ROSE PRIME PLAY REMIX

Crookers (blog) have just released a Japan only LP on mega cool Japanese label Avex Records. Much like what Jay-Z and Kid Cudi have done there’s a ton of collabs although it comes off more so as a quasi new release with a few twists on past material and not one, not two but three mixes of the album title and single ‘put your hands on me’ by Black Noise, Solo and Jesse Rose.

Tracklist:

1. PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME FEAT.KARDINAL OFFISHALL & CARLA-MARIE
2. JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH FEAT.EDU K
3. WHAT UP Y’ALL FEAT.IZZA KIZZA
4. JUMP UP FEAT.MAJOR LAZER,LEFTSIDE & SUPAHYPE
5. EMBRACE THE MARTIAN FEAT.KID CUDI
6. TRANSILVANIA FEAT.STEED LORD
7. SVEGLIA
8. BUSINESS MAN FEAT.THOMAS JULES & WILEY
9. BIG MONEY COMIN’ FEAT.VERBAL(M-FLO/TERIYAKI BOYZ)
10. CANDY CANDY FEAT.TEKI, CUIZINIER & BIG-O
11. PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME FEAT.KARDINAL OFFISHALL & CARLA-MARIE[BLACK NOISE DUB]
12. PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME FEAT.KARDINAL OFFISHALL & CARLA-MARIE[SOLO REMIX]
13. PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME FEAT.KARDINAL OFFISHALL & CARLA-MARIE[JESSE ROSE PLAY PRIME REMIX]

When I first heard the ‘Put Your Hands on Me’ Original I was ready to give Crookers the heave ho in what turned out to be an excessively tacky commercial release, the mixes turn things around with steady bass and a heap more life added (Solo especially).

Crookers - Put Your Hands On Me (Jesse Rose Play Prime Remix) ysi

I’d send you guys somewhere to get your hands on it but it might prove tricky… bit more info over at Discogs

STRIPPED BACK

strippedback

Its good to see that producers are stripping back tracks, removing all the unnecessary noise and concentrating on a killer combination of bass and melody. This might have been due to a rise in popularity of minimal tech (renaissance man) or just people being plain tired of it all.

Benjamin Daly is a London lad with skills, with only so few tracks on his myspace its impressive how far he has progressed. Two licks here, one from the ever-drama-ful Deadmau5 that keeps and enhances the sharp harpsichordial sound that IS ‘Ghosts n Stuff. The next is one of the last Crookers installments ‘Business Man’ feat Wiley, that throws in some low shaking bass and upped vocals.

Deadmau5 – Ghost n Stuff (Benjamin Daly Remix) Z

Crookers ft Wiley – Business Man (Benajmin Daly Remix) Z

B. Rich has this sort of RnB Dubstep thing going on, heavy and slow bass meant for slow jams and sways. What Manikan has done is ramp this into a proper dance tune whilst shredding away the extras. The final tune is ravetastic… almost dancehall-esque, come 2:40 it takes a very different turn and would find itself in a Major Lazor set very easily.

B. Rich – Make Me Dance (Manikan Remix) Z

Heaps of new stuff this week.

glasto460

That’s right one of the biggest festivals in the world has crushed all rumours with the real line-up being announced for 2009!

Covering a grand total of 3 days and 3 main stages there really is something for everyone. Diversity is the key to such a grande event and Glastonbury never ceases to amaze the masses by pulling together a wide number of old and new rockers, indie and dance, folk and pop and always more and more and more!

Highlights would be Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Spinal Tap, Dizee Rascal, Friendly Fire (Syd: Manning Bar), Bat for Lashes, White Lies, Peter Bjorn and John, Doves, Little Boots, Echo and The Bunnyman, 2mandjs (soulwax), Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, La Roux, Kissy Sell Out, Erol Alkan, Crookers, Whomadewho, Animal Collective, The Horrors, Noah and the Whale, Bon Iver, Metronomy etc etc etc this really is only a 1/3 of the whole line up.

Tickets are already sold out but head over to the official Glastonbury site to see this years posters anyway.

BOOM BOOM POW

boomsr

The new Black Eyed Peas single ‘Boom Boom Pow’ felt the full force of the dance music world with collaboration work from 50 cent and Kid Cudi with some unofficial remixes from Chew Fu, Mr Gaspar, T-Minus etc etc etc (The ‘feat 50 cent’ version is meant to run with different lyrics and melody)

One standout for me was the Boys Noize remix, nothing like his newly surfaced track ‘Come with Me’ but a slow burning swagger version, real heavy on your left foot sorta stuff.

Black Eyed Peas ft. 50 Cent & Cîroc Obama – Boom Boom Pow (Boys Noize Remix)

So we’ve seen Crookers do U2 and Britney, Justice do Lenny Kravitz and now Boys Noize with Black Eyed Peas, what’s everyones thoughts on it all? Is this progression or just what artists need to do to survive?

Was going to do a little wrap on The Vanish but i’m short of time and I want to give Pete and Mike a bit more of a write up.

It’s cool to hear they are playing soon at Spectrum (May 13th) and keen to do some Dj gigs, so any promoters get emailing > thevanishmusic@gmail.com as these guys will be the Van She / Van She Tech of this year and next!

Oh and this Twelves Remix of Metric via RCRD LBL has been getting alot of play, such lufly beat!

Metric – Help Im Alive (The Twelves Remix)

Pee Ess – Dropped first on iheartcomix but the N.A.S.A (North America, South America) single ‘Strange Enough’ feat Ol Dirty Bastard, Karen O and Fatlip and remixed by Designer Drugs was promo’d and sent to the masses so just doing our part.

Real haunty number… huge jumping sections and head thrashing guaranteed.

RAVEN

Dj Mujava ‘Township Funk’. You all should know it, if you don’t you should seriously get out from underneath the rock you have been living under and get googling or some shit cause there is no hope for you. The version I have for you today has been funked up by none other than Diplo. Diplo manages to keep the same brilliant style as the original but gives it more depth? and did I mention its Diplo?

Dj Mujava – Township Funk (Diplo Remix)

1 down 1 togo, Crookers and Proxy fans rejoice Crookers have finally remixed Proxy and I can say i don’t like it as much as the original, but I really have not liked any of the ‘Raven’ remixes because they all lack that intensity that you can’t get out of the original.

Bart B More is joining a chorus of artists releasing damn good bouncy beat driven Techno/Electro in 2009. Best known for his track “ Touch Me” which became a Beatport no. 1 last year, the Dutchmen’s hype seems to be growing by the minute. A Bart B More remix is distinguishable from the rest yet none of his tracks sound the same unlike other popular artist who tends to stick to the same song structure and background beat (Klaas, Crookers… hey i guess when your onto a good thing stick to it… point being is maybe these guys should take a risk everyonce and a while like Bart B More)

Bart B More – So it goes (Original Mix)

Crazy good bass pumping beat. Definitely big room worthy

Be one of the first to hear a glimpse of his new remix “Lay Around” on his Myspace

PS. I (wow) have a new email address due to technical difficulties that have been attempted to be fixed for the last few months without much success. So if you were previously in contact with me or have any Remixes, Original productions please send to stnyrds@gmail.com (I’m a fan of a good piss take)

MAJOR LAZER REMIXED BY LEHTMOJOE + DMV, AFTER MIDNIGHT MIXTAPE AND MACHINES DONT CARE MUJAVA REMIX/HERVE EDIT

Categories:  Music

spoon-copy

Well well well… I’m back after a stint of my internet running at speeds up to 0.1Kbps which is always helpful (thanks Telstra Bigpond), surfing down the South Coast and getting water in my ears (im down to one) and building slash working on another blog!

What I’ve come back to is a whole lot of music, good, bad, amazing etc I have apologise to alot of people and i’m trying to email back each and everyone of you and if I don’t resend stuff through to me and I’ll check it out.

Seems like Major Lazer (not Master Lazer.. doh) have been making waves in the past few months and finally breaking into both the blog and music world.

Major Lazer is made up of two extremely formidable names Switch and Diplo. Both sport heavy hitting bass orientated tracks and remixes and came together to create a Dancehall project.

They managed to feat(ure) a few big names on the upcoming self titled release ‘Major Lazer’ including SantIgold, Future Trouble and some co-production by Afro Jack and Crookers (tracklisting in comments).

With the release of ‘Hold the Line’ Dj Edit, Instrumental and Accapella on the Mad Decent blog both DMV and LehtMoJoe worked their magic and sent through remixes.

DMV uses just the acca and he drops in this off the hook sample including what sounds to be a phone vibrating but you really have to hear it to understand it. The LehtMoJoe remix is a generally fun mix enhancing the already present of loop of Toto’s ‘Hold the Line’.

Get one? Get them both!

Major Lazer – Hold the Line (DMV Remix)

Major Lazer – Hold the Line (LehtMoJoe Remix)

After Midnight were featured a couple posts back on a promo EP release for Relentless and their single ‘Mono Love’ and were favoured personally over the Stereoheroes remix (info here).

Farron (of After Midnight) sent through a HUGE email filled with remixes which will see the light of day on Stoney Roads but I wanted to feature a mixtape they put together to really showcase track selection and general cool-ness.

Tracklisting here + stacks of info.

After Midnight Presents – 12:03 Tales Before Dawn

This post has actually made me pretty happy to be back and blogging, we got a few ideas that are coming to light so stick around and don’t forget to add us on Hypem or Twitter or even our Facebook group if you like.

BRITNEY SPEARS + CROOKERS, THE PRESETS ‘IF I KNOW YOU’ TANIA AND JORI REMIX, MR OZIO + DOORLY, VICTOR WOOTEN AND TECHJIO

Categories:  Music
Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Sorry to Wow for hijacking this but seemed like the perfect time to drop this Crookers remix of ‘If you Seek Amy’ by the ever ahhh interesting Britney Spears.

Fasial over at Ohh Crapp mentioned this on Twitter a couple hours ago and the things only just been sent out to Dj’s etcetera.

‘if you thought the Crookers/U2 was a weird combo… Crookers remixed Britney Spears’ If You Seek Amy (officialy) & it sort of SUXXX’

But thought I’d see what you guys thought.

Britney Spears – If you Seek Amy (Crookers Remix)

I’m kinda digging it, think people have to remember its a fun track for fun people. Most Likely your drunk and off your face when you hear it and to be honest… it sounds like the best thing you have heard in your life!

Finally had a bit of time to go stalk ou a few blogs and stumbled upon my old favorite Big Stereo with a great remix by Tania and Jori of The Preset’s track ‘If I Know You”.

Jori Hulkkonen has his fair share of the spotlight on Stoney Roads with various remixes of Kid Cudi, Robyn, Kevin Saunderson and more Presets.

This version takes a more slower approach then the Heartbreak remix thrown to the interweb by Modular a few months ago and is equally lifting, giving real meaning to the song and the ever present power The Presets have over an audience be it live, in the studio or in digital form.

The Presets – If I Know You (Tania & Jori Version)

You might remember Doorly and his first cab off the rank remix of Calvin Harris and ‘Im not Alone’ which got alot of play prior to the Deadmaus, Herve, Burns, Down in One edits that followed.

Well he’s back this time with a Mr Oizo ‘cut n paste remix’ of ‘Lambs Garbage and in full 320Kbps glory.

Mr Oizo – Lambs Garbage (Doorly Cut n Paste Remix)

Plus a cover from our favorite Techjio.

‘The track is called More love. I was feeling like doing something relax, a bit like the remix of animal from crookers. The original track is only the bass, so i added some drums and some smooth synths’

Victor Wooten – More Love (Techjio Cover)

That’s all I’ve got for now so enjoy what is left of your weekend!

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY, CROOKERS DO JESSE ROSE’S TOUCH MY HORN, REDLIGHTS BACK AGAIN, DAZ THE DOMINANT, NEW DADA LIFE AND CFCF

Categories:  Music

cardssr

Pic – Hobogestapo

Started raining last night and hasn’t stopped, so it’s given me time to sit down and get blogging! There was some great feedback on the last post so going to include some original Redlight material, Crookers remix Jesse Rose’s ‘Horn’, Dada Life are dropping a new EP which i’ll delve into later next week, Daz the Dominant is back after a long hiatus with some original stuff and CFCF make a debut on Stoney Roads.

Did anyone hear about Princes shows last week? He covered Elvis Presley and Hendrix and Chaka Khan made an appearance… the weird keep getting weirder.

Qui over at Castle of Noise sent through a new Crookers remix of Jesse Horn’s track ‘ Tough My Horn’ and the thing rules the school. Very keen to hear a proper version but this will do for now. Listen out for Jesse’s Horns, Crookers rumble and Proxyesque fade.

Jesse Rose – Touch My Horn (Crookers Remix)

Was looking for lost files (thanks outlook and opera) and stumbled upon a Redlight track I missed a month or two ago and couldn’t believe my luck. Somehow they have bottled the early 90’s and drown this track in it, big ol ‘hey’ samples and fresh beat.

Redlight – Rock the House

Daz the Dominant had his start when he remixed The Beastie Boys to perfection. It shuffled to the #1 position in Hypem and must have motivated him to put his ass in gear and start working on something he could call his own. Gottadancedirty picked on this one, my memory was hazy but I was positive it did do well but I can’t find it anywhere now.. might have gone close sorry – Ubbs

Whilst hard at work he sent through two tracks, Make Me Feel and Connect the Dots. Make Me Feel is the pick for me with a similar sound to Shadow Dancer minus the vocals. I’d suggest Daz get’s a hold of someone to do just that and then your looking at something really special.

Daz the Dominant – Make Me Feel

Dada Life have released the Happy Hands & Happy Feet EP as I type. Part of the release was setting free the original off the EP that includes remixes from Malente, Alex Gopher, Moonbotica and Phatzoo. Dada Life don’t define or recognise music genres and constantly dabble here and there whilst getting involved with such influential names such as Boys Noize, Tonite Only and Alex Gopher.

The original Happy Hands & Happy Feet gives you something to smile about, much like the rain it almost pitters and patters with some great breaks and such a high powered beat, expect more next week.

Dada Life – Happy Hands and Happy Feet

Also go check out a post by Wow with a Moonbotica track remixed by Malente here.

Bonus > CFCF – Bathub Clash (CFCF remix)

CROOKERS AND U2 + UNKLE AND FAKE BLOOD

Categories:  Music
Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Who would have though those Irish bastards U2 would end up getting remixed by the Itallian Stallions Crookers… and decently too.

The Crooker’s game really has dropped with this sort of industrial manufacturing of tracks but then something like this comes along to stimulate the mind and feet.

U2 – Get Your Boots On (Crookers Remix) 320Kbps

Rumour: The new u2 album was leaked by pure accident with the click of a button in outlook sending it to a ‘distribution list’.

*Disclaimer – U2 may or may not be Irish Bastards

Next up thanks to ‘you can call me pelski‘ is a Fake Blood Remix of Unkle’s track ‘Restless’. Ooooozing (yes pun intended) with that thumping FB beat and using the original lyrics to create layer on layer of building goodness I could easily place this in a top track of the week.. yes you heard it here!

Unkle – Restless (Fake Blood Remix)

Bonus > Etienne de Crécy & Monsieur Jo – Hannukah (Les Petits Pilous Remix)

Quick apology to Kraymer, promise your next buddy

MSTRKRFT AND THE REST

Categories:  Music
Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Pic – Hobogestapo

Seems like alot of people are giving the new MSTRKRFT album ‘Fist of God’ on Dim Mak’s label the thumbs down. I’d say im sitting on the fence where a couple of the tracks do it for me in the thumping, high hat, clapping MSTRKRFT way and the others are so so. There are appearances from Ghostface Killah, E-40 and Jahmal from the Carps and not knocking them or anything but the originals such as ‘1000 Cigarettes’ really do it for me.

Now I’m going to avoid getting sued here and say wait till mid March and lay your eyes, ears, fingers or whatever else you place on a super hot album and purchase the bad boy. But yeah just wanted to say it should be on the to-do list and to check it out.

Speaking of Shinichi Osawa (past post from Hatch) the new album titled ‘The One +’ is filled to the brim with goodies and such an all-star crew of remix-ers. Lot’s of variation and takes on tracks with Alex Gopher working on ‘Push’, Crookers terrifying ‘Rendezvou’ and Herve’s devious work on ‘Detonator’… go out and buybuybuy now if you can.

Shinichi Osawa - Detonator (Herve’s UXB Remix)

Zombi are like this amazingly talented progressive rockers sent to the future unleashing Van Halen type riffs and melodic beats upon our poor and sad world… ok so maybe not that extreme but they produce simple and mind expanding beats and get remixed by equally talented producers like Escort.. check it

Zombi – Sapphire (Escort Remix)

Did anyone else read about Santogold changing her name to Santigold? ha link

Going well over at B-Live although make sure you sign up, click the link in the email and either download Groove Armada’s new track ‘Go’ or not but this will mean it’s confirmed (don’t worry you get one email and thats it, no password needed or anything).

If it helps sign up, send me your user name via email and i’ll link you something tasty, original post here.

The five most downloaded tracks for 2008 on Stoney Roads were

Sneaky Sound System – When we were young (Sinden remix)

Diplo – wassup wassup (crookers happy remix)

Fake Blood – Blood Splashing

Outhere Brothers – Enjoy (Crookers)

MGMT – Kids (Soulwax remix)

Conclusion – The big guns emerged. But this was not to say the up and comers did not do well with artists such as Solly being popular as well.
