STEED LORD INTERVIEW
Categories: Interviews, Music
Throbbing bass, powerful vocals and frenetic pace are a few things that come to mind when summerising the Icelandic four piece ravers and my newest group crush Steed Lord. Having had a couple releases under their belts as independents for the last 3 years and a recent collab with italian big boys Crookers on ‘Transylvania’ it seems Steed Lord are intent on creating some serious world vibes.
The guys + gal were happy to open the New Crack City den and answer a few questions.
Ubbs: Introduce yourselves, names, age, hometown
Ubbs: Current likes?
Ubbs: Current hates?
Ubbs: The Truth Serum Remix Project was a perfect way to recap the 2008 release, looking at all the mixes its easy to get giddy at the talent pooled on there.. was it hard pulling together everyone or pretty smooth sailing?
Steed Lord: Thank you. No not really… its was just a very exciting and big fun project to do! It was put together in a couple of months last summer and everyone who is on the album was willing to take part in it and do a remix for us… it took some time to finish because of everybody´s busy schedule but it was pretty smooth sailing. We are just super thankful to everyone on the album and It´s an honour for us to have remixes from these amazing artists and showcase them all on one album. And the end result is one big pot of gumbo soup full of all kinds of bangers, riddims, basslines, electro, dubstep, house, synth pop, techno and club crack! It was all done out of love for club music and now it is available on Beatport and iTunes so go fill up your iPod.. NOW! :)
Ubbs: These days it seems as if most things are agreed on with favours and through friends, is it possible especially with 4 members to make a living doing what you are doing?
Steed Lord: Well we have been making a living by making music for many years and we haven´t gotten any free rides or favours to get us to where we are now. Sure we have friends and people that have supported us but we have done it all by ourselves. We have never been signed with a record label so we just started our own, New Crack City Records and we have been working as an independant band for 3 years now doing everything ourselves. Sure we struggle like many other artists but with a lot of hard fucking work and stamina and passion for making music you can go really far. We are in this together the 4 of us for the long haul.
Ubbs: Lastly your plane is about to crash there are only 3 parachutes left.. who’s left behind or riding tandem?
Steed Lord: Terrible question! We leave no one behind. It´s all of us or no one. We actually just barley survived a car crash last year in Iceland and came very close to death. Seat belts saved our lives.
So there you go kids, listen to Steed Lord (via beatport), like kittens/girls/cake/gadgets/girls/friends/monsters/girls and always wear your seatbelts!
