Miami Horror could be attributed to some of Australia’s most influential releases within our music scene in the last few years with a string of ‘hits’ that have also struck home across the globe.

In the lead up to the debut full length release of ‘Illumination’ Ben stepped out of his production/dj/live show shoes and answered a few q’s for the Stoney Roads crew.

Ubbs: Name, age, hometown?
MH: Benjamin 23, Melbourne
Ubbs: What was one of the first records you bought/listened to?
MH: The first record I listened to excessively was my parents copy of prince’s greatest hits, the first i actually bought was the strokes ‘is this it’.
Ubbs: What is the journey been like leading up to your debut LP ‘Illumination’?
MH: It’s been pretty lengthy and rediculous. It included some songs which I had written as far back as 18. I dont think I knew what I was getting myself into by attempting to create an album.Originally i had planned for it to be a highly disco orientated record however dropped alot of those tracks because of the disco fad and continued down the path of somethibg more original/what I’m enjoying more now.. Which is, besides a few tracks on the album a more 70s pop and slightly prog\psychededlic direction..
Ubbs: I’ve heard there are some interesting collaborations, care to spill any deets?
MH: We’ve worked with the great Alan palomo from neon Indian/vega on a few tracks both vocally and stylistically.. Penelope from the golden filter has sung on one of the more 60s/disco house orientated tracks.. A really amazing Swedish artist Mai has sung on another track. Lastly a friend and really young singer from Melbourne ‘sam lawrence’ who has a really interesting jeff buckley/ Antony hegarty style voice has sung on what will hopefully be the second single ‘moon theory’
Ubbs:Lastly any secrets about Miami Horror we should know about? fave snacks, preference in underwear, anteaters or sloths?
MH: I have a feeling that Mi-goreng has had a big influence on this album..
