Whoa the weekend has flown by in much a drunken haze and I’ve finally got a moment to get posting with a generous helping of tracks with an extra side of remixes.
Lot’s of news as well with Milo Firewater spotting the release of DjHero. Not only can you shred a guitar now but play in a virtual band and spin the decks all from the comfort of your own couch… can’t wait to hear people’s bragging rights out and about.
Spank Records will have a competition commencing tomorrow (Monday the 30th) in association with Bang Gang (wait till you hear what they did to Tiga’s ‘Shoes’) and the Damn Arms.
Basically you cop samples + full 320Kbps of the track ‘Destination’ from the Damn Arms, you do your thing and get it in prior to May the 3rd and your in for a chance to win alot of booty (read > $6,000 prize!) and get a digital release on Bang Gangs 12inch Label.
Not sure if this is just an Australian competition but from the looks of it its open to the internationals as well.

Villians sent this through a couplah days ago and its been on repeat, although the original of Lykke Li’s ‘Little Bit’ is pushing its use by date people are re-inventing the sound and giving us something different to play with each week. Think carnival, think sea spray, think a little bit more.

Holy Ghost has been such an impressive force in the last few months, not only in producing new and fun tracks but having a backlog of equally amazing synth happy originals and remixes.
One of my favorites that can only be described as ‘strutting’ is the ‘Moon Song’ by They Came From the Stars I Saw Them in a Holy Ghost Instrumental Remix form. This bad boy makes flares cool, perms rad and being alive great.

This may be a little late but on March the 25th the world reflected and celebrated the ‘International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade’. Part of this was the cause-driven collaboration of Peter Buffett, Akon and the United Nations in creating the track ‘Blood into Gold’ on the struggles of slavery and abolishment in our modern world.
The song grips you and tells you a story not many people would have experienced. Peter’s harrowing voice and Akons soft but melodic tones bring this to life and help us remember.

There was a re-release of Kraak and Smaaks ‘Squeeze Me’, which even not knowing the name you would have heard at some stage in your clubbing/festival gallivanting career and more then likely the Trevor Loveys version. The new EP saw Fedde Le Grand do both a Remix and a Dub and a relatively unknown Redlight Remix added for something a little bit extra.
The Redlight Remix has that classic big beat early 90′s dance tune rippling through the whole damn thing. Great emphasis on the vocals and reminiscent of Kim’s ‘Wet N Wild’.
Kraak and Smaak – Squeeze Me (Redlight Remix)
Scion have been on top of their game by teaming up with blogs and sending out samplers of fresh music. The most recent was Redmans ‘I Hold the Crown’ single with remixes by His Majesty Andre, Nic Sarno and Gigi Barocco, of them all the His Majesty Crown hit the spot for me turning a slow and almost dull track into a throw back french house sounding dancefloor frenzied beat.
