Panton is a side project of a particular Montreal producer/remixer/dj and this is his mix for Southern Fried Records as a bit of a teaser to the up and coming release of the 4 track ep that includes a remix of 2 bears (solo project of Jos from Hot Chip).

Douster: My name is Hugo, hometown Lyon, France, Buenos Aires, Argentina, loving them both deep in my heart . And what’s a secrest moniker?

Ubbs: Pre heading down under, have you already got your ‘touristy things to do in australia’ list done yet?

Douster: MMh i don’t know much about australia, i just wanna hang out with kangaroo’s and stuff, people told me that those tazmanian devils were crazy as hell too. I allready know the sidney opera though, they have the same in Buenos Aires .

Ubbs: What are some pet hates?

Douster: I used to hate dogs, they’re so dumb, but now i think i love dem so no more pet hates hé.

Ubbs: What did you want to be when you were growing up as a kid?

Douster: i don’t think i never thought about that, i wanted to be a smurf but never got to be blue enough .

Ubbs: Within certain circles you would be regarded as an innovator and respected producer although at the same time being so fresh your missing that universal recognition.. is that an appealing feature being slightly unknown or something you are chasing after?

Douster: Wuut ? truth is that i’m chasing that mainstream thing but in the same time taking my time so i don’t go american idol type of fame . Seriously, the thing you’re talking about is just the result of internet/blog fame, no calculated stuff.

Ubbs: Lastly bit of fun, you’ve found a leprechaun who is the first person you would show?

Douster: Aren’t they supposed to give me rainbow money ? I’ll just take the money and run, leprechauns scares me.

You usually have some talent when an Australian label like Tuff Em Up picks you out out of Chile and releases some bumping mixes in full quality, add to that you record your own vocals and have a general dude vibe about you and Barretso is someone I tip my hat to.

‘We Won’t Stop’ is the salute to the un-willingness to compromise but skewed into a musical masterpiece bolstered with shooting chords and uplifting anthemic vocals.

In a recent evening for the debut of Ben Mumfords (of mumford and sons) once UK and now Australian night ‘Communion Australia’ the kids affectionately known as Sherlocks Daughter woo-ed the crowd in a soft shanty plea that left me gazing at lead singer and total babe Tanya Horo.

‘Kids’ the most recent installment from the the troupe has been dazzled by another sydney miss Alison Wonderland, who until recently I considered a pretty face with skills on the wheels of steel. Her remix shows proper structure and potential for both the track to see many different faces and that Alison can create a seriously smooth and dfa-esque bump.

Man Gomma are way rad, not only do they house the talent of WhoMadeWho, Munk, Telonius, Phenomenal Handclap Band, Moulinex, Diskokaine, Headman, Golden Bug and more but tend to release ep’s packed full of new material from all the guys.

The latest and greatest is the Gomma Dance Tracks E.P.2 with my favorite being the Den Haan Remix of The Phenomenal Handclap Bands ‘15 to 20′. The chorusy ahhhh ahhhh ah ah ahh is one of those little attention to details that makes a track shine from it’s counterparts all struggling for mp3 stardom.

In the final run up to the end of 2009 the name Beni would be synonymous with hits. His collaborative track ‘maximus’ with everyones favorite black and gold man Sam Sparro took off not only due to the impressive guise of the track but dancing skills displayed in the music clip.

Like most people you gotta take a holiday to re-solder the brain wires so he’s heading to the states for some studio time and playing a few venues on the way. I like O’Spada and I like this frenchy Daze remix… but is it sad that I most like the outro? sure there’s plenty of zip-zap funk bass from the early start but that Chromeo break down gets me every time.

Man Owen Pallett is cool, just flirts between solo and side projects (Final Fantasy/Arcade Fire) re-inventing himself and turning a fairly old classical instrument into a modern day resonance changer.

This time and something I haven’t seen before is a Simon Bookish Remix of ‘Keep The Dog Quiet’, a jumpy and frantically paced percussion laced lick.

Midnight Club are a fresh sound for the 80’s revival and really nail your double denin-acid-washed-head-band-shoulder pad-bat wing-needs.

Made up of three frenchbros all with 20 years experience of real music under their belts who were actually there and probably have a good idea of what made the 80’s so… ahh forgettable (bar the tunes and my birth).

‘The Machine’ EP will see a Feb release on on the fruit label and feature some real Danger-esque bangers and a Worship remix that will put your filter/french house cravings at ease.

Can’t put my finger on it but Jump Jump Dance Dance boys are the little prodigy’s of some more influential music bros but more to the point is the release of their first single ‘Show Me The Night’ and the as you can always expect good things from him flower-power remix from Grum.

A seemless blend of pop and proper synth this jam flows along in what could be mistaken for a live keyboard punch version topped off with some vocoded 90’s electro man!

Danger has the most perfect timing, just when you thought… hey where’d that banging french bro go? he steps on your face with some proper electro that will see ravers and weekend party kids unite.

The entire ep shows layers and layers of skill cool with three originals 3h11, 3h15, 4h30 with mixes from Riot Kid and Oliver $ on the flip.

Boris Dlugosch definitely left a dent in our heads late ‘09 when ‘Bangkok’ was set free with trembling bass and a new sound. There was a small round of hype that died off quickly and could have been be attributed to the lack of remixes and politics to holding back stems or at least sharing them with the right sort of people.

To date the only really (decent) versions are the dub, roska mix and now this.

Redlights common enthusiasm shows through his ‘Bangkok’ mix with a more busy track, a stronger melody roams through and draws back to still highlight the wah-wah-wah chorus we all love.

From the Top Billin club house is the Helsinki 78-82 project from team-bros Flipper and Koobra, a starship sorta jam with help from fellow label-ees Villa Nah whom I have a mild crush on… musically.

The tiny release featuring only two tracks ‘So Lifelike’ both feat Villa Nah and the Radio Edit as well as ‘Project 2′ is amazing in many ways for something so small. Not sure whats in the water over there but I want some… it’s the culmination of  that warm feeling inside post smoking or the lingering happiness after finally talking to that cute girl you’ve watched from a far.

Emotive yes.

Was kind of blown away at that Groove Armada and Bryan Ferry Jam ‘Shameless’, it’s almost as if they sampled him when he was a young man still blasting trips.

Anyhoo slightly off topic, more importantly at hand is Grooves new ep ‘Paper Romance’ in the lead up to some UK touring post our very own Big Day Out (which was fun.. side note) and the March album release of Black Light on the Cooking Vinyl label.

The track itself really lets Groove shine, they settled into a slight routine of good music but the peeks we’ve had recently are just mind electrifying. ‘Paper Romance’ is a bit shouty anthem stuff but who really doesn’t like that? The Urchins mix is my pick of the pack along side an album version, more tech doorly lick, sydney dreamsters Softwar and the Zombie Disco Squad tribal terror cut.
