News: The Doors had issues with Riva Starr doing a remix followed with a stern email > source here

Kicking it off with an interveiw with Designer Drugs, doesn’t ring a bell? Turn your clock back about a year from now and get looking and boy oh boy you will be suprised!

Setting the scene they had a single signed and released by one of my favorite blog/labels iheartcomix in October last year its been nothing but a whirl wind tour for these guys not relying on a name to build the hype but putting the hard work and clocking up countless hours in the studio.

Not only have they produced A+++ (Ebayers eat your heart out) tracks and remixes for likes of Little Boots, The Veronicas, Thieves like us (Kitsune) and even our own Mission Control but they are touching down in Australia for an all city destruct-a-thon.

Kicking off in Perth (WA 17/4) with Melbourne (VIC 18/4) and Adelaide (SA 19/4) on the hit list and climaxing at my local in  Sydney at Candy’s Apartment (NSW 24/4) after a much needed rest.

On with the show!

Ubbs – Give us a quick run down, who, what, where, are Designer Drugs from and if your single/taken for any potential ladies out there!

DD – Michael Vincent Patrick + Theodore Nelson + Elle Rex (Manager/Photographer)

All I can say is that we listen to too much R Kelly.

Ubbs – Webster’s dictionary defines Designer Drugs as ‘a term used to describe psychoactive drugs which are created (or marketed, if they had already existed) to get around existing drug laws, usually by modifying the molecular structures of existing drugs to varying degrees,[1] or less commonly by finding drugs with entirely different chemical structures that produce similar subjective effects to illegal recreational drugs’.. Did you guys know this when you sorted out the name?!?

DD – Yeah, I came across the term in an Anti Drug book in middle school. The article had a picture of this really chic lady in a satin cocktail dress or something. Really 80s looking photo if I remember correctly. I thought it sounded cool and the memory of it has been stuck in my head since, so I thought it would be a good name for the project.

Ubbs – Don’t think you guys have ever touched down in Australia before, what’s on the agenda apart from tearing up a few clubs??

DD – We’ve actually been so busy we haven’t thought about it yet. I’m sure I’ll do some last minute research to see what to check out and where to go but if anyone has any suggestions of cool shit to do please hit us up.

We have a few days off in Sydney and we plan on doing touristy stuff / shopping / taking pills on the beach / drinking obscene amounts of whiskey… and things of that nature.

Ubbs – Nice, count me in haha

Ubbs – The blog world only recently got a taste of Annie’s new single ‘Anthonio’ and I think we were all fully and completely impressed, how long before a track gets released do guys like yourself get a hold of it and do your thing and did you get to meet the lovely lady?

DD – Yeah we were really happy with ‘Anthonio’ when we finished it the first week of January. We got the parts around mid december. The deadlines are always tight with these remixes and with our tour schedule and it’s a bit frustrating at times to only have a day or two to start and finish a remix. And then once it’s done, it takes time for the labels to put it through all different steps of releasing it.

I’m really stoked they let the blogs have it. Richard X, who produced the original song with Annie, is really cool and great to work with.

Ubbs – With blogs though do you think they are a positive or negative for artists such as yourself?

DD – For us they are 100% positive. We really advocate the whole blog scene.

Ubbs – In terms of the industry you really are only quite a young duo, what’s next, should we expect the Designer Drugs ‘Do Drugs’ EP anytime soon? Or if that’s not the plan who are you looking to collaborate with? Or are there any projects already grinding away?

DD – Well we just finished up some remixes for NASA feat. ODB, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Fat lip, Fischerspooner, Ministry of Sound, Femme and various other artists and we are really stoked on those remixes which should all becoming out in the next few months.

This summer we plan on working on album almost exclusively, we have quite a few tracks and are recording vocals, guitars, drums etc. It’s going to be much more elaborate and dynamic than our previously released remixes. We are trying to have some bangers but also bring some sex music too, but, i guess there isn’t much of a difference now is there?

Ubbs – Favorite question, if you could spoon any artists/dj/producer alive (or dead) who would it be and we’re a lively bunch here at Stoney Roads so multiple answers can be given!

DD – Keri Hilson, (video) but I would probably skip the spooning and get right to business. I mean, have you seen her dance? She’s amazing.

I am getting more and more excited as I count down the days till I get to rock out with my… ah rock out. I still don’t get how the classically trained kids always end up the coolest?

Here’s a few tracks to get you moist;

Annie – Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)

Milke – Love Get Out of My Way (Designer Drugs Remix)

Bonus > Designer Drugs – Back Up In This (Nadastrom Remix)

Follows suite from the Le Castle Vania remix although this time jagged by Nadastrom (Dave Nada).

This post then coincidently segways onto a new EP from Nu Ravers on the Block titled ‘Take me Upp’ and the thing stinks of cool and just so happens to have a Designer Drugs remix tucked into the mess. Apart from the usual stand outs you have on any EP I was suprised to hear lesser known Dro & Lodzy do what I can only describe as un-organised perfection.

NROTB – Take me Upp (Designer Drugs Remix)

NROTB – Take me Upp (Dro and Lodzy Remix)

The whole EP can be purchased for blissful listening purposes  on beatport and I couldn’t recommend it anymore with a 12` release on the way.

Yuksek seems to have taken over the place with no one to blame except myself, his Extraball EP with remixes by Breaktbot, Pilooski, CK 90 and The Shoes have been accompanying me on most automobile trips and I was excited to see this (first?) un-official remix by TBS (The Bloody Sisters).

It has something none of the others have and is currently on play 3… if that isn’t straight forward enough then nothing is!

Yuksek – Extraball (TBA Remix)

Well well well, goodbye the end of today and the start of tomorrow.
