FIELD DAY 2011 RUMOURS

Categories:  News
Tags: , , , , , , ,

only a mere 4 months out (har) it’s always worth a shot at guessing who’s going to grace the many stages at field day for 2011.

in a year that’s been overloaded with new releases both in live dancey band stuff and dj specific anyone could really be heading downunder for a boogie.

last year featured belg duo 2manydjs, the presets, major lazer, the proxy, fake blood and even french house king fred falke.

so who do we think will be there?

Justice – Strong

Pretty strong pick, they are currently in the studio, toted for a late 2010 release and well.. we haven’t heard from the guys in a while and a source says it’s a go-er.

Die Antwoord – Low

South Africa represent! The spliff smoking, in your face, quasi rappers have been touring all over the shop in the wake of the ‘$o$ release. Have been quoted as playing Big Day Out so chances are pretty low.

Aeroplane – Strong

Aeroplane’s album is a whisker away from being released and already scoring some butterfly invoking reviews. They did a quick stint around Australia late late 2009 so it’s about time the now solo vito flew the roost and got back to our sunny shores.

Crystal Castles – Medium

We’ve seen Alice Glass a few times and more recently parklife 09 I think.. but along with a new album comes a new sound and hopefully new levels of total loss of mind.

SebastiAn

Ed Bangers go to man for distortion SebastiAn hinted new material around christmas on the xmas special sampler with ‘Threnody’ a full 13 minutes of noise in some strange tribute to the beginning of sound. Again, with whispers of an album later this year it would be a treat to bring in 2011 with some heavy noise!

Think you know better? Drop your thoughts below.

style/idea blatantly stolen from pedestrian.tv thanks guys.

Just after the release of their Breakbot Remix and announcing the next single ‘We Can’t Fly’ it seems Vito of Aeroplane is now flying solo.

‘Everybody… Thank you for you support messages ! There’s no co-pilot anymore, but i’ll make sure Aeroplane keep flyin…’

Check out the tweet if you don’t believe me.

Maybe they couldn’t fly together?

SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2010

Categories:  News
Tags: , ,

embedded by Embedded Video

the hype was phenomenal when the lineup was fed to the masses for the 2010 Splendour in the grass. The few changes this year in venue and length truely have pushed an already fantastic australian music festival even higher.

one of the major change ups is the location, having moved from it’s historical grazing place of byron bay it has jumped and skipped over the boarder to woodford in the somewhat sunny state of qld.

woodford is no stranger to large gatherings of music fans with the annual self titled ‘woodford’ 4 day blues/jazz/roots festival and has proved time and time again of poise and perfection.

SPANK RECORDS AND SWEAT IT OUT WANT YOU TO REMIX WE SPEAK NO AMERICANO

Categories:  News
Tags: , , , ,

Yep you read correctly, release below.

Spank Records in conjunction with Sweat It Out! is proud to announce the second annual Spank! Records Remix Competition.  The 2009 competition with Bang Gang 12Inches and Damn Arms was an enormous success with thousands of entries submitted from all over Australia. Spank! Records is hoping to top that with our 2010 competition, with a huge new track for remixing and a swag of prizes worth more than $5000.

We are proud to have the Sweat It Out! label onboard this year. The label was set up by Australia’s leading DJ Ajax and Matt Handley and has gone onto release tracks from some of Australia’s best underground talent including Gameboy Gamegirl, Act Yo Age, KillaQueenz, Oh Snap, Pablo Calamari, Harris Robotis as well as releasing tracks from Brazil’s Edu K.

This year’s competition track is collaboration between Sweat It Out! artists D-CUP and Yolanda Be Cool entitled ‘We No Speak Americano’.  It has been riding high on the Aria Club Charts for a few weeks now and is garnering massive overseas reaction.

Yolando Be Cool had an enormous year in 2009 and is certainly amongst the rising stars of the ‘party-tech’ sound. With their first original release ‘Afro Nuts’ being licensed to Fabric 49 mixed by Buraka Som Sistema and signed as an exclusive license to Herve’s Cheap Thrills label, Yolanda Be Cool has quickly become a familiar name worldwide.

It would seem that DCUP’s meteoric rise to the forefront of the world’s dance scene has happened in about the same time as a girl in LA can go from being a B cup to a D cup. If there was any doubt about where he’s now at, his remix of ‘Filterfreak’ hit number one on the ARIA club chart and his remix of KillaQueenz ‘My Boyfriend’ is getting huge radio airplay nationally. With an original EP coming soon, and constant requests for him to play at parties all around the world, the DCUP is no support act these days. He is the main event.

Full details with how to enter, as well as the list of prizes up for grabs, sponsors and partners will be released at http://www.spankrecords.com.au/sweat-it-out-comp/ on Friday the 23rd of April. The competition will begin the same day.

You can pre-register now at that website and guarantee you will be the first to be notified with the competition rules and when the remix parts are available to download.

we’ve really enjoyed having you all by for a jig and supporting us for the last 3 years or so that we’ve ston-a-fied.

we may pop up in another reincarnation in the future so keep on the twitter @stoneyroads or email us.

NIKOLAY AND LUVSTEP

Categories:  News
Tags: , , , , , ,

sad and lonely people of the interwebs, there is nothing to worry about… luvstep is here.

I didn’t really have a good listen/peek when luvstep was first spied a month or two ago notably with the dirty south / flufftronix mix but Nikolay sent through some in a polite well structured email (hint hint) so thought there couldn’t be any harm having a listen.

Inside were three tracks, fittingly titled ‘Victoria’, ‘Alexandria’ and ‘Olivia’ that gave me a much stronger idea of what luvstep is/was. It sounds like dubstep, acts like dubstep but has a tad more resonance and flesh, little less aggressive compared to raw dubstep and quite enjoyable if you like flat bass.
