While Ubbs is away Traveling the through Europe for the next few weeks, I have employed the interviewing skills of a friend of mine who is a huge fan so I thought I would give him a go at asking some questions to get the low down on how things came together for there latest album, heres what came back.

Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemis are the Canadian Electronic Duo Junior Boys. There most hyped third studio album “Begone Dull Care” has just been released in time for there upcoming first Australian shows on the stella parklife festival circuit. Committed to creating the perfect pop song traveling through different continents, we caught up with the boys to see how its all coming together.

Junior Boys could you please give our readers a run down of who you guys are and what makes you tick?

Umm we are two Canadian guys who make music….

For your third full length release “Begone Dull Care”, your creative process included traveling between continents. Could you please explain how it all came together.

Basically we both travelled to and from.  I went to Berlin to visit Matt about three times for about a month each time, and he was in Canada for about four months or so.

You talk openly about your influences, including idols Neil Young and Steely Dan. What inspires you from these artists while working with new technologies?

They are both very different.  I think with Neil Young, it is a sense of honesty, and a need to constantly experiment and capture a special creative moment when you least expect it.  The sense that music happens, in spite of yourself and you have to be ready for it when it comes.  With Steely Dan it is almost the opposite, I love their sense of careful restaint, never fully exploiting a moment, letting tension hang whenever possible, never going for a quick payoff.

The title of the record has been taken from an obsession you have with a fellow Canadian filmmaker Norman McLaren. How did your interest with his creativity latch onto the music?

Mclaren is a perfect artist for me.  He is like Neil Young in the sense that he creates art simply out of impulse or for the joy of it.  He doesn’t spend time doubting himself or overanalyzing his stuff before he does it.  He works with the principle that art is spontaneous.  But like Steely Dan, he is restrained, and he is methodical, his ideas required patience and dedication etc…..Those are all virtues we would want to emulate.

Where else do look for new energy and ideas?

Everywhere, other peoples music, old music, films, books, tv shows, cities, forests, highways, buildings, advertisements, sounds, objects, etc etc etc

There are various avenues for promoting artists through blogging and file sharing. Do you think it is a positive direction for the industry?

Probably not the most positive, but there is nothing to do about it. I wouldn’t want to go back to some other way.  I like the fact that music is so readily available, I just wish that people had a chance to listen more, and were not directed towards an immediate payoff all the time.

With a full scale North American tour underway, has there been any dramatic changes to the live set up your taking to the road?

Not really. I play more keyboard than I used to and we still have Foster playing drums for us.

A European summer will soon follow. Which places are you most excited for touring?

It’s all good, but we are playing a few new places this time, like Greece, Bratislava and some parts of France we’ve never been.

Confirmed! The Duo will be showcasing there Neil Young and highways inspired electronic pop songs on the stage at all Parklife shows coming this Spring (dates below)
